1. Cover manufacturers have provided to the industry an "adequate" cover by their standards. It looks fine, performs to the industry standard for a couple of years, and then they get to sell you another one! Taking your money, on the average of every three years, has been a great source of revenue for most hot tub stores. That being said, why would they offer a solution to a "money maker"?
2. The staff at Diverse Designs Limited, LLC has been involved in the spa hot tub industry for over 20 years. Improvements have continually been made within the hot tub industry; lights, controls, insulation, jet action, etc, enhancing the enjoyment of hot water therapy.
The one item left behind, and a source of disappointment with most hot tub owners, is the cover. We listened to the customer and spent nearly four years researching a solution to water absorption. 3. The insulation value decreases with the absorption of water. As water is absorbed into the air pockets of the foam core, the insulating air pockets can no longer function as intended. The R value decreases rapidly.
4. ASTM (American Socity of Testing and Materials) has developed a standard for pool and spa covers. This standard, ASTM F 1346-91, establishes three cover classifications: 1)power safety covers, typically found on swimming pools; 2) manual safety covers, such as AccuLok covers, and 3) other covers, which do not serve as a barrier for children under the age of five and do not qualify as a safety cover. Non-safety covers can meet ASTM standards if they comply with the lableiing requirements. To qualify as a safety cover, compliance must be met with specific requirements of the Standard which include performance tests and labeling requirements. 6. This is an area that has drawn much interest over the years with the understanding that the higher the R value, the better the insulation. That is true to a degree. A spa cover that is sloped from a 4" to a 2" is the same in R value as a 3 1/2" to 2 1/2"; 13.2.Our AccuLok design is actually far stronger that a 4"-2" slope as the 2" end is very weak, while our 2 1/2 " provides a stronger, longer lasting cover. Covers with a 5" to 3" slope are too heavy to handle, may cause damage to cover lifters, while providing very little additional insulation quality.

8. AccuLok uses only 1.5 lb virgin foam to assure the maximum strength and insulation qualities. Competitors may offer a 2# foam which to the general public, is understood as a thicker, higher insulating product. That is not necessarily the case. Regrind foam is often used which is foam that has been recycled and may include various types of foams and waste to make up the weight. That does not mean it is any more effective in insulating; actually it is worse.
9. When traditional spa covers absorb water in their foam core, the strength and intergrity of the core is lost. The foam becomes weak and has a tendency to sag, and even break. This causes the puddle effect you may often notice that gathers rain water and snow melt, not to mention leaves and debris. With the AccuLok spa cover, the water absorption is reduced allowing the foam core to remain strong and prevent the puddling effect.
10. The small grommet-looking drain found on the underside of each side of the cover allows any spa water that may absorb through the underside material to drain back into the spa. With AccuLok, there is no concern with that condensed water being absorbed into the foam core. This is a big issue with traditional covers as that drain helped to prevent water trapped between the underside and the foam layer which eventualy became absorbed into the foam core.
11. This is an important question. With traditional spa covers, the zipper has been claimed to be there solely as a convenience to you. Our competitors make it sound simple to pull out the foam core, let it dry out, then re-insert all through this zipper. If you have ever tried to do this, you know that it is all but impossible! After all, if those covers didn't absorb gallons of water making the cover too heay to lift, you wouldn't need the zipper.
Now for the truth; the zipper is for sewing ease only. This is the only way the foam core can be inserted into the outer material for a tight fit.

16. Double-wrapping is not needed with our AccuLok technolgy. This material is documented as 4X better than the standard wrap. 17. No. Our 1.5# virgin foam has an R value of 13.2 and remains stronger than other covers. In addition, with our water barrier technology, the foam core remains strong without being compromised with water weight gain. Don't waste your money on old technology purchasing foam and wrap that eventually fail.
